5TH BLOK

5TH Blok: Image

5th BLOK was inspired by San Antonio's palimpsest of urban architecture and development. I aimed to join both the past and present of San Antonio through the use of materials and building orientations. The materials used that was to display the old are wood and limestone, both of which were readily available and used by the old Spanish settlers. The materials used to display the present are steel, glass, CMU, and concrete, all of which are readily available to us now.

The Building Consists of; a parking garage, retail stores, restaurants/ food court, apartments, office spaces, school, outdoor gathering spaces, and an outdoor cinema.

The building is made out of 5 separate building masses, and each on is connected by overlapping as well as large vertical masses. creating both vertical and horizontal movement to the spaces. The building was designed to have a small footprint, leaving a lot of room for outdoor green spaces.
